(1 minute read, plus 1 minute video.)
I only came across this Apple “Shot on iPhone” ad recently – it was aired at the Rio Olympics Opening ceremony in 2016.
In this ad, Maya Angelou narrates her “Human Family” poem which highlights the diversity and complexity of humankind. However, she concludes:
“I note the obvious differences
between each sort and type,
but we are more alike, my friends,
than we are unalike.”
The photos in the ad highlight how we are obviously different as well as the individual, breathtaking beauty in these differences. And in this beauty, we are all alike.
If we are open-minded to embrace and value differences, and if we care and take genuine interest in another, we will find even further commonalities; further examples of our alikeness. After all, we are someone’s child, we are an inhabitant of this planet, we are a common humanity.
